Looking around at the hard seltzer market, you're going to find a lot of the same thing. From packaging to flavoring, the biggest players in the industry saw what worked and replicated it, lacking the creative vision to make it their own. Jeremy Kim, John Dalsey, and Brando Brando aren't like that. They wanted to forge their own path. And so, out of their Los Angeles garage, they created Nectar Hard Seltzer in 2020.

 A far cry from the traditional approach of their competitors, Nectar is built around Asian inspired seltzer flavors including asian pear, mandarin orange, lychee, and yuzu. With a limited budget of just $20,000, the brand used innovative and viral marketing strategies to turn Nectar into a national phenomenon. 

Texting customers directly, the Nectar team has built lasting relationships with their biggest fans. The brand aims to use those relationships to break down Asian stereotypes and support local businesses through mutually beneficial partnership.

THE MAIN SQUEEZE

The success of this emerging brand is obvious now, but the Nectar team's early lack of capital put a lot of constraints on the business. After scraping together $20,000 from savings, manufacturing problems quickly ate up their investment and nearly forced them to call it quits. Viral posts on social media ended up validating their business, but they had no distributor and no way to convert their fans into paying customers.
